Fake it 'til you make it - Summer "fake-cation" ideas
The warm weather is upon us, patios are open, and the kids have finished the school year – it’s time for summer vacation!
This summer might not look exactly as we hoped, but we can still make the best of it by taking advantage of the activities that are accessible in our community and having a little creativity along the way. We have compiled a list of “fake-cation” ideas for your family that are easy on the wallet and can create that vacation magic we’ve been missing.
Did someone say room service?
Order your favourite local take-out, set it up on a tray or baking pan, put on a robe and pour yourself your favourite drink – now get into bed! Not only is this an easy way to recreate what room service is like, but you’re also supporting local businesses in a time when they need it most.
Stars, s’mores and ghost stories…
Get the kids excited by bringing the adventures of camping to the back yard. Set up a tent, build a fire, and don’t forget the s’mores! And if you’re feeling extra creative, make up a ghost story - we recommend holding a flashlight up under your face for an extra spookiness effect.
For the foodies
Who says you can’t dive into a delicious globally-inspired dish from the comfort of your home? Order a meal kit or take an online cooking class to spice up your dinner-at-home experience. Get the whole family involved by giving everyone a role – set the table and enjoy!
Get outside and go exploring!
Try something new like golfing (or mini-golfing), yoga, go to the local market, or go for a hike, bike, or walk in your community. You can even add a scavenger hunt to the mix so the kids can explore while the whole family is staying active.
For those who need a good rest
Turn your phone off for a few hours and treat yourself to a pod cast, magazine or good book in your favourite place. You can also try meditation or a “spa-at-home” experience with a warm bath and face mask.
We hope these ideas help you plan a “fake-cation” you and your family will love. Stay safe and have a great summer!
